&The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam, therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.& Proverbs 17:14 [WEB]
Due to natural differences and perspectives, two persons relating closely for a long period or for a lifetime (marriage), will obviously generate misunderstandings.
Misunderstanding when not handled breeds quarrel. Quarrel has the potential of graduating to crisis through strife.
Strangely, lovers actually quarrel because they &care& about each other. But when &self& is at the centre of the quarrel and unchecked, crisis is inevitable.
Funny, sometimes it seems a partner is &looking for trouble&. Can you feel me? It takes at least two to quarrel, so you can deny him/her that &delight& for quarrel.
So how do you dodge quarrel?
1. Politely ignore.
Form &deaf and dumb&. Keep yourself busy somehow especially in your mind. Use positive silence.
2. Distract by changing the topic.
Wisely superimpose another topic of discussion. It must be interesting enough to your partner to be capable of refocusing him/her.
3. Humor the situation.
Be a smart actor/actress here. Get your partner to laugh, smile or however douse the tension.
4. Play the fool sometimes.
Decide to take the insults without retaliation. This takes patience and meekness.
5. Be Proactive.
Decide to keep your temperament under guard ~ refuse to exchange revengeful words! Don’t ignite quarrel yourself.
&The quickly angered man stirs up contention, but anyone who controls his temper calms a dispute.&
Proverbs 15:18 [ISV]
